This Week's Counter: The Crazy Egg

We ran across The Crazy Egg in Willowick during a random on-line search for East side counters, particularly looking for anything up near the lake as we wanted to make a trip out to Stebal Drums in Willowick.  We had never heard of this place, but a couple of photos on Yelp seemed to show a small counter. So we dropped in late morning on a Saturday.

It occupies a small store front in an older strip mall on E 305th, and sure enough it has a very small (3-seat) counter in addition to maybe 10 or 12 tables.  We got lucky, as a couple people were just leaving the counter when we arrived.  The servers were super-friendly and attentive with drinks and menus.  It was clear this restaurant is efficient and the staff pays a lot of attention to detail -- unlike a lot of small diners, everything was incredibly clean.

The Crazy Egg is a pretty classic type of diner, with an emphasis on breakfast but a small lunch menu also.  Being late morning, Cam could choose between breakfast and lunch, and went with his usual lunch standby of chicken and fries.  Ted got the basic eggs, potatoes, toast and coffee.  The food was fresh and hot, and this place got the hallmark "well done" potatoes exactly right -- a rare thing.  In general the food was very good, although the coffee was somewhat on the weak side, and could have been better.

We haven't found too many places in that corner of Lake county (Eastlake, Wickliffe, Willowick) and this one is very good -- overall good quality, good service and pretty inexpensive.  Definitely worth the trip and i'm sure we'll visit again.

Cam says: "Very clean with great service and a friendly staff.  Food quality was just below par.  I give it 8 frying pans."

Ted says: "Gets 10 pans for friendliness and cleanliness, and is definitely up there on food quality.  Small counter and weak coffee detract a bit.  Very solid 7 frying pans."
